2,700 Undergraduates make up the CalGreeks’ Fraternity & Sorority Community.

The CalGreeks’ Fraternity & Sorority community is one of the oldest in the country, founded in 1870.

There are over 60 Chapters represented by
4 Governing Councils in the CalGreeks’ Fraternity & Sorority Community.

UC Berkeley is home to the first purpose-built fraternity house in the country.

UC Berkeley is home to the first national college sorority west of the Rockies and only the second national college sorority west of the Mississippi River.

In 1922, Alpha Phi Alpha founded as the first Historically-Black fraternity on campus.

In 1929, Pi Alpha Phi Asian fraternity formed, the first Asian-American Interest fraternity in the country.

In 1923, Oski was born – an actual bear cub who lived in Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

In January 2007, the Multi-Cultural Greek Council was formed. For the first time all recognized single-gender fraternities and sororities are members of a governing council.

In 2008, the housed Fraternity & Sorority Community became the first in the nation to partner with host City and local community on disaster/earthquake preparedness programming.
